Just a reminder about our schedule. When we land in Israel, we have a full day of things to do, places to go, etc. There is no nap time scheduled. We get off the plane and start our adventure at something like 6:00 AM, Israel time.
This means you need to sleep on the plane.
Some students I have talked to have told me that they are going to take a few over-the-counter meds to knock them out. This is generally a bad idea as you never know when the meds will wear off. I can't tell you how many drowsy people I see getting off the plane who are in a haze until noon or later.
The other generous solution I hear is that students think they should stay up ALL NIGHT, the night before the flight so that they can sleep on the plane. This seems like a great idea until you are sitting next to friends, uncomfortable, and unable to get enough sleep to sustain yourself for the full day ahead.
The best thing you can do is get SOME sleep the night before and get a little sleep on the plane. Think of it as a good time to nap.
Bring a neck pillow for the plane AND the bus in Israel. It will pay dividends. The bus is a great place for naps, also.
